Greetings drumming friends,

I am from NE Ohio. I am 54 yrs. old and have been drumming since age 13. I've played in night club and party bands in the 70's and 80's. I've been doing mostly gospel in the 90's and 00's, with some jazz.

I was a singing drummer, without formal vocal lessons. I had 15 yrs. of drum lessons, but taught myself to sing. I am finally learning to sing by taking lessons. It is great. I used to sing both lead and backup. I look forward to singing again, but this time, I'll actually have some vocal chops.

It seems like all of the drummers who make it in pop, have vocal ability. Band leaders do not want to hire backup vocalists, and most vocalists do not want to sing backup anyway. Leaders want keyboardists, bassists, drummers, and guitarists who can sing well.

Anyway, I'll have some drum solos posted in a week or so. In the meantime, feel free to respond and chat. Best regards to all.

Welcome to the site! I'm only 20 (not nearly as much experience as you) but I play and sing at the same time. Usually backups, but I do a few songs lead from the kit.

I've done shows where I come up front and sing (and double a rhythm guitar part, although I'm a lame guitar player) and the band does an acoustic sort of set in the middle.

Very effective for keeping the crowd's attention!

Hi Claude,

I'm Mike in Maryland. I was born and raised in Pittsburgh and played in clubs in western Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio in th 70's, and 90's. (I spent the 80's in Florida.)

I have friends in the Youngstown and Cleveland areas. My brother has a place at Pymatunning lake.

Welcome to the site. We are really a group of people who share this hobby and have developed friendships through this site.

What kind of kit do you play?

My kit is a Rogers, purchased in 1972. Remember them? I use a Fibes snare drum, 5" X 14" fiberglass. My cymbals are Zildjian. The kit is a 5 piece, snare, dual mounted toms in the original 9X13 & 10X14 sizes before power toms were in vogue, and a 16X16 floor tom. The bass is 14X22. I also have a 5X14 chrome Ludwig snare drum, & a 6.5X14 6 ply maple Pearl snare drum.

I'm a "vintage" player (50 years old) with some vintage gear as well. (I have Slingerland, Gretsch, and Leedy kits as well as a new set of DWs.)

Rogers are great drums.

Welcome, Claude! - I'm the old man around here (60). But my experience and skill level are not up to the norm. I'm basically a hobbyist. You'll like it here. We have a good collection of drummers from all over the world, playing all kinds of music.
