The popular marching sticks and mallets now are Innovative Percussion brand FS1, and Brett Kuhn models. Also Vic Firth has many popular models of marching sticks, mostly autograph models like Ralph Hardimon, Dennis Delucia, Scott Johnson, and Brian Mason (who is a friend of mine) just to name a few.

Tenors, or multi-toms are played with mallets that have acrylic or delrin heads on them. There is a trend now though for "tenor sticks" which look sort of like pipe band tenor drum sticks with a big fat bead and a contoured grip area.

Yeah, that's a good reason. I learned traditional grip playing concert and marching percussion in school band. In college, I played match grip on snare drum, so I can play set that way too, but I just feel most comfortable with traditional.

What grip do you use?
