I think marching sticks are usually really thin and light, usually with ball tips. Don't know why though, lighter and easier to use I guess.

When I was in marching band.... years and years ago... we used 3S sticks... which are quite large. I have seen some drummers use that same size stick when playing a kit. (ouch).

No Expert, but when I was marching I remember the sticks we used were fkn HUGE-

You have to project to all the way to the front of the line and you're outside, in a parade, etc-
