the drums are maxwin which was a pearl company
i dont think maxwin was a pearl company, they just distributed these buget pearl  kits back in the 60's and put there names on the shells. lots of other companies did aswell eg apollo
The MAXWIN was the budget kit made by PEARL and from that kit nearly all the far eastern generic kits were copied!

For a lot of us older drummers when we wanted to stick add-ons to a kit, it was usually maxwin that filled the gap, until the funds were available to get the proper bit!!

Don't want to sound like an old fart - which I am sounding like!!! - but people who want to start playing today have got the best quality and range they could ever want!!

right.....I'll go back and sit in my rocking-chair now!

the point i was trying to make was that Pearl made the majority of those 'far eastern generic kits' MAXWIN was just one of over thirty distributors who bought them and added there own badges.

i have one of the first set of Maxwin drums produced for the uk market, i have played a few kits in my time and i prefer the maxwins they sound great.

the all 5 toms have no bottom skins and as a result they have a deep rumble to them. i have remo strips allround (i do have gaffa tape on them to stop a bit of the resanence)

i was using the original concert bass skin (woven fabric type) but have changed over to remo pinstrip for that to as the skin was starting to look tired.

It may have been a budget kit new, but i think it sounds better than more expenseive kits now.

Hi Paul.

On the main page about halfway down you will see a section entitled Introductions.
Click on that and go to the bottom and start a new thread.
