Basically, if your gonna upgrade, go all the way.

Put off a little longer and save up too make the full upgrade to AAX/HH/K/A/customs, whatever.
If you skimp now, and just go for a *little* better, or the 'next step up'...Youll just have to buy better ones AGAIN in not to long.

Go to the store, play some cymbals. Listen for those sounds that you LOVE. look at the price tag, go save up money, and BUY THAT CYMBAL.

if you choose to ignore what I say above, then a next step up would be Sabian XS20.

But then there is no warranty, and you cant tell if the cymbals been played with horrible technique for 3 years and is about to crack.

A cymbal is something I try to never by used.

I did once before. the thing has (after only a short while playing this started, and because I keep playing it, it continues) a 1 inch by half inch CHUNK that broke off.
a horizontal circular crack going along the lathing of the cymbal that spans half of the cymbal.
another lathing crack spanning 1/4 of the cymbal

^^ I know I just got a bad break on that one. But cymbals are risky.

i agree with steve but still go for the best you can afford. im very much one for having one great sounding crash than five average ones.
buy your HH and ride first and make them good cause they are the things you hit the most

While Jake has had that problem I have as well but I slow do not hit my stuff hard anyway and I really go over the cymbal with a fine tooth comb (or in this case a magnifying glass) looking very closely at it.
