Yes, getting good at anything takes time and practice. The key to quicker ride cymbal (I assume that's what you're talking about) is to relax and work a lot on FINGER CONTROL, where you grip the stick with your index finger and thumb and use the other fingers which are gently curled around underneath the stick to open and close causing the stick to bounce faster, allowing for quicker more intricate rhythms. It takes practice and timing...kind of feels like dribbling a basketball close to the floor.

Practise makes perfect!  If you got a drum teacher, ask him/her to give you some good exercises to play.  Otherwise just do simple ride patterns, and over time you will find your capabale at going at faster tempos.

Location, location, location !!

No wait...that's real estate.

Practice...practice...practice !!

Ya know, I've got 15-20 years doing this...and I learn everytime I sit down at my set. In fact, that's why I come here...to talk with other drummers and pick up things here and there, then go try them. Hang around, read what these guys, and Ladies, have to say..it will only help you. Promise !!

Joey,

THANKS for the Jim Chapin link. I just spent a couple of hours there watching, reading and learning. GREAT stuff !! Everyone here could probably learn some stuff from him I would imagine. (Unless one of us is him of course.)

nihilisticbro21, try practicing paradidles and doubles on a pillow, but don't stop when it becomes painful. take a break and then do the same execises on the ride. your fingers should fly. Azubi38077.0853703704
