| One gig stands out above all. I have to share it.
On 08th Oct 1977, my band was hired to perform at a convention for --- (hold on)
"The Ohio Association For The DEAF"!!!
It took place at the Ramada Inn in Youngstown, Ohio, my hometown. We were set up on the floor, with no stage or riser of any kind. The deaf attendees at the party could feel the vibration through the floor. Whenever we switched tempos, they would adjust immediately.
Miss Deaf America was there, as well as the local press. She was a 24 year old beauty. She wore a green evening gown, and was quite a vision of loveliness. Our band was seen on local tv. At the bar, the deaf people would speak in sign language. It's amazing how fast they can sign. They were telling jokes as well. It was funny to see someone go through all this sign language, and then hear others laughing hard.
It was a very educational night. It can never be topped. I was a senior in college at the time. My professor asked me a few days before where we were playing that weekend. He asked in front of the class. When I said we're playing at a convention for the deaf, the class burst into hysterical laughter. It was priceless.
I just thought I'd share that with you. Cheers.
