right now im in the front ensemble for my schools drumline, and i think my director wants me to try out for bass drum for outdoor. i was wondering if anyone had some useful tips.

learn to mark time and play the excercises your bassline plays on ALL the parts. Also learn to mark time and play snare drum rudiments and excercises. You can practice that at home on a practice pad.

It's all about learning to play and march at the same time while being rhythmically precise and keeping steady time. Specifically for bass, you need to develope good timing skills because a lot of what you play will be parts of a rhythmic sequence, or "run."
