| | Hi. I'm Pete. 52 years old, going on 30. Been playing since im about 7 yrs old. I play a 1967 Ludwig 3 pce set which I acquired in the early 70's in exchange for painting a house.I like to play most kinds of music, especially jazz, funk, fusion and rock.Grew up playing mostly rock, fusion, and funk.Favorite drummers are,Buddy Rich,David Girabaldi,Steve Gadd,Dave Weckle, Kenny Aronoff,Bill Bruford...and more.My drumming is mostly recreational. As you can see,I've been playing the same old set for 30+ years.I went into music store to buy cheap $300.00 set. Saw Pacific maple 4 pce set for $700.00.Then yesterday went to buy it and saw 5 pce Gretsch set for same money.I know Gretsch has been around a long time, like Ludwig, but don't know too much about quality, sound, etc. these days. I'm used to playing with 13" tom and 16" floor tom,but fusion kit with 10" tom sounded pretty good. And 4 maple toms for $700.00 sounded like a pretty good deal.I'm playing with Evans hydraulic heads and Evans Emed bass head.(I like the thump without the ring).$700.00 is pretty much my limit. Then I'll have to replace OE heads.Saw Renown set at music store yesterday. Is there really that much difference in sound between Renown and Catalina considering that the Catalina kit is maple? i would appreciate any input from some of you younger, more with the times guys. Thanks ,pete | | Message posted 432 days ago | IP Logged |

Hey Pete,
I lived in south Florida from July of 1979 until May of 1991. I was a fixture on the music scene in that area for the whole time. Very .
