I have no need to mic my drums as they are very loud,I've learned to control the volume.I'm looking for a different sound for instrumental pieces. The hot rods I use are homemade. I use smaller dowels in a slightly different design that work well in a praise setting.

I almost always have a kick mic at the very least.

Kick (ATM25), snare (Beyer M201), and two overheads (AT3035, Schoeps CMC5, Rode NT5, EV Cardinal) is probably my most common setup these days.

The thing with mics is you can always turn them off.

I do have some 'Flix' though not the same brand. I like them especially when used with good mics. I can get the sound without having to worry about whether or not I'll be heard. At least assuming the FOH guy has a clue.
