What they did do though was push those who showed promise. Ok, they took it to the extreme - but they really pushed them.

I am the first to see all the points raised, plus the fact that it was for the wrong reasons. But, as Steve said, they provided this high level of hard teaching from birth - or a very young age, and made sure that they picked up on promise.

We seem to have taken the oposite attitude - we are scared to push people to excel. Being better at something is a dirty thing in our culture - everyne is equal - equally shite, and shite upon.

Bring back elitism, start them young and spend real money on them. Get kids playing, and don't be afraid to go "shit, you are good at that, let me make you better, and therefore better than other children".

I think I am drifting away from music is general angst here Wink

Suffice to say, our society should fund and support the arts more than it does, but not to the extreme of old communist Russia.

Most regaltips i've tried have thinner shoulders which break faster, but rebound better.

I agree with Lee.

I've used Regal Tips for quite a while now...I'm just in love with them. They don't last as long as my Vic Firths, but I think that they are worth it. They do feel better...weight is more balanced.
