The Drum Line seems to be quite an American thing - our schools just have bad orchestras.

Err...Err...

It was great, only drummer in the school - I could play whatever I wanted over the top of all the parts, and what were they going to do - throw out the entire percussion section Wink

Our teacher was horrible - and didn't like students, and thought that music was too good for us.

Drumline evolved from the old marching bands of the mid-century that began playing for football (American football) half-time shows out on the field. It started with much of the music being Sousa-type marches and the drill being mostly block formations.

It has evolved to an amazing art form nowadays. The drill is almost entirely asymmetrical with flowing lines, designs; a sort of kinetic work of art. The music is incredibly exciting, usually arrangements of anything from old classical standards to big band jazz to even original compostions written just for drumcorps.

Music education really sucks in the UK - it is private lessons or bad lessons. There is no real pride in school music.
