When I Switch I do everything...  So I get the full effect.  As in Aquarians case the batters and reso's are kinda matched...

And Sam I agree.  My probelm was that I never liked REMO heads but that was all I could get for a while back in the day.  So my sound was kinda deffined by them.  I switched to Evens and they were all to thick for me at the time.  I ended up back in Remo world.  I then ran into Roy at one of the first demos he did and fell in love with the sound on my snare so I slowly switched my whole setup.

Gareth as this kits new to you change the tops and resos, it will make you spend time tunnig the kit getting used to how you can make it sing. the best investment you can do.

I'm not sure - that is a Sabian AA metal-X cymbal we are talking about

Joking - I am planning on doing it all (apart from the bass).

Do you know - my local shop wont order drum bits in because there is no call for it, ad no money in it...no small orders, and drummers only make small ordrs (apparently). I am looking at the wrong end of £100 for all those heads (regardless of manufactuer) but they don't want to know...well sod em

10, 12, 13, 16, 18...and 14 snare... It is around £10 per head, 2 per drum...6 drums...£120

Big kits look cool...but boy do you pay

The advantage is, I can get away with a couple when I next change...the 18" gets half the use of the rest.

And I may not bother with resos next time as well!

I'd trade that 18 for an 8. Maybe win back some money in the process. I havent seen a time when I needed to go that low. Cost less for a head as well.

hed loose way to much money doing that IMO. also trying to match the laquar (i really need to learn how to spell that one!)colour on a new drum would be difficult.

I would probably add an extra 8"...I do tend to use the 18" quite a bit, remember that I play quite heavy metal - the guitars are tuned to B for some of the tracks (C is our standard tuning ).

I find that a good flam across the two floor toms can make for an interesting altrenative to a cymbal on some fills and beats.

Thanks for the link Rich. They seem to class 18" as a bass drum, so they only stock the Evans bass system heads - so I think it will be some phoning round this morning for prices .
