| I see what you mean, yes the cymbal needs to be down so it doesn't drop.

| Here's what I do. I tilt the bottom hat cymbal around 20-25 degrees and keep a 1/4" gap between the two to minimize the slip downwards and the acoustic clash. It really helps mask the maneuver and I use my right hand stick to disengage the top hat since I play with the 'Traditional Grip' and have used 2B's since forever and it's just too darn hit-or-miss to use my left.
Tilting the heavy bottom cymbal by degrees also increases the pretty 'chick' sound and shhhhip open vocalization that is so wonderful and pleasing to the ear.
