I see what you mean, yes the cymbal needs to be down so it doesn't drop.

I'm not real good for this, I don't play double bass.

It's probably just a matter of getting in the practice room and hammering it out for a while - like so many other things. It can't be any tougher than shifting on a manual transmission car. Err...

If I come up with something, maybe I'll just have to put up my own video online. Devilish

Here's what I do. I tilt the bottom hat cymbal around 20-25 degrees and keep a 1/4" gap between the two to minimize the slip downwards and the acoustic clash. It really helps mask the maneuver and I use my right hand stick to disengage the top hat since I play with the 'Traditional Grip' and have used 2B's since forever and it's just too darn hit-or-miss to use my left.

Tilting the heavy bottom cymbal by degrees also increases the pretty 'chick' sound and shhhhip open vocalization that is so wonderful and pleasing to the ear.

Hope that helped.

I hit mine with my right stick..I play right hand lead and a sharp rap on the lever and down it goes..

Usually not an issue for metal players as they are masing a ride cymbal or playing tom riffs
