C'mon, Rich, I see another mic near your snare. So, inside the bass drum, up near the snare, are there others?

yep.... in the box.

i dont see any point putting mics on every drum and over heads unless your recording.
snare and kick work just fine for me

I've got drum mics and overheads. I currently mic only the bass drum and pencil condensers over my head, one pointed down at the floor tom and the other pointed down towards the snare and hi-hat. It's working fine with no feedback issues.

Less is more, usually. Close micing seems to create more problems than it solves.

Yes. But it really does depend on the style. I always close mic for rock gigs cause I can get that huge punchy sinking tone. For jazz I use a single overhead.

Overheads usually work fine for lighter stuff anyways, cause there's less stage noise.

Once you start having loud guitar and bass amps on stage, and drum monitors (especially if you're drummers singing, like I do) overheads on a stage like that just won't provide enough gain, and feedback.
