Good day all!

My name is Neil. I have been drumming since I was 15, I'm 31 now. I did, however, have life run away from me for about 7 years lately, but recently have gotten back at it!

I started in school as most do. Marching band (1st chair snare from 10th-12th grade). Jazz band. Concert band (misc percussion). I played with a band called Central Street when their drummer got injured at work. I jumped on board about 6 weeks before we had to play at Country Jam in 1997. We opened for Sammy Kershaw on the main stage. Nervous? YES! lol

As of late, I was invited to join a local band, and I have had a blast with them. Before that, my 4 year old was playing my kit more than I was. Not necessarily a bad thing, but, I was losing my edge. I think we're back. And wondering why I ever left.

What brought me here you might be wondering?
I have an old Kent kit, and an old Gretsch snare that I am trying to restore. The snare is priority one. I am missing parts of the tension mechanism on both ends of the snare. I am about to go cruise the site, but if you have any parts, or know a good place to get them, chase me down!

Thanks a ton in advance. Now, if you'll excuse me, i'm off to go snooping.

Hey Neil, and welcome to Drum-World! I'm not very knowledgeable on restoring snares, but there are some others on here that would be able to help you with that.

Hi Neil, welcome to Drum-World.

It's a friendly group on here.

As for the snare, I just bought a new (vintage) snare throw-off on ebay for one of my Gretsch snare drums. It was about $65 plus $7 shipping. The parts are avalible, but require patience.

It's important to get the correct parts because you DO NOT want to have to drill into the shell. (It absolutely kills the value of the drum.)

Friends don't let friends drill into their drums.

Welcome angain and feel free to dive into any discussions.

(Except maybe about the Super Bowl.) ;)
