Recently, I mentioned the name Count Basie to some 'younger' music enthusiasts and even a couple of musicians I'm acquainted with. To my total shock and dismay, they were not familiar with the name.

So I am posting this here for our younger participants, to help keep alive the sound of what I feel was one of the greatest, and I know for sure my favorite, big band from the swing era.

I know you know them, but tell your friends.

This always surprises me, although it shouldn't anymore.

About a year ago I met a 25-ish drummer who had never heard of Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa or Slingerland drums. I really had trouble comprehending that at the time.

Spreading the word is what we do Gene.

(Great clips, by the way...)

Count Basie was the very 1st concert I even attended. I think saw him 4 or 5 times. Always a great swinging concert.

Younger People are only as deep as their parents taste as far as music is concerned.
My children were brought up listening to everything and have never been influenced by the latest "pop phenomenon".Now they bring Me new stuff that I like because it's good.

"I dream Of You" by Count Basie with Thelma Carpenter on vocals is one of the great recordings of all time IMO.
