Hi fellow Drummers ,Pleased
I'm new to "Drum World" so I might need some help on the way... I'm also kinda new to drumming but i've learned a lost so far.

My first question: Does anyone know what kind of cymbals I would need to play Teenagers by My Chemical Romance?
Like how many crashes? Where can I get those cymbals, etc. etc.

Thanks,
Shazib

Why don't you listen to the song, and listen to the cymbals?

First lesson is that cymbals on albums don't sound at all like cymbals in real life.

The drummer in the video is useing a very minimalist set up. Looks like a heavy ride and maybe two crashes. This music isn't delicate, a set of Sabian B8s or something similar would probably suffice.

I can usually get past covering most songs with 2 crashes, hi-hats and a ride. Pleased

Oh, you can go to a local drumshop to get them (where you will be able to test them first) or just buy used of ebay, which I reccommend if your just starting out. Cool Dude

your going at it ass backwards. that band will be gone in a year or two along with the trend of only having 22" crash cymbals and beating the crap out of your 24" ride.
at your stage you need to think longer term than that especially as a decent set is a major cash investment and treated well should last you a life time of playing

Hey, watch what you say about 24" rides! Devilish

(At the risk of confusing the hell out of our new member, I'll mention that I'm just having a little bit of fun. Just a little bit.) Wink

Ditto on what everyone else has said: basic cymbal setup (ride, a couple of crashes), go to a drum shop or music store, try out some cymbals, pick up the ones that sound the best to you (taking affordability into account, of course).

Think about how many "general business" bands there are out there, playing weddings, corporate events, and the like, where the drummer covers a variety of styles - and a variety of bands - with one cymbal setup. Playing the song properly is far more important than having the "correct" cymbals.

No clubs, and generally no poop-smacking on my gigs, Wink but now that you mention it, both the 24" and 22" crash beautifully. Devilish

(Seriously, they do - crashing in a jazz context, at least.)

They dwarf the whole kit. LOL. I bet they crash "just fine".
