| I have a friend and sometime employer who is a big deal in the world of bluegrass music. He pays His musicians top money to play weekend festivals and covers expenses and airfare etc. He clears twice as much money as some of the people who do it full time. The secret is picking material the audience likes and making cds they will buy.
The guy wanting to form a band doesn't seem to realize it's not about what you likr.it's about what they (the audience) likes.

| Talent, chemistry and work ethic are all very important, of course luck plays a part as well. Being in the right place at the right time is sometimes all it takes.
In the mid 90s my brother and I stumbled into the oldies scene. We had no idea of the popularity. We had a talented idiot singing lead and we would be booked 2 or 3 times a week year round. In the summer with parties, carnivals, and car cruises we sometimes did a couple gigs a day on the weekends. (We would play a car cruise or church picnic in the day, and a bar at night.) It was just a case of the right people, right place, and right time.
Luck plays a BIG part.
That was the most successful band I ever played in financially. Even so, it was a good side job. We aren't talking about the kind of money that makes you leave your day job.
This guy is a dreamer.
-Mike of Baltimore We don't stop playing because we grow old. We grow old because we stop playing.

| It sounds to good.
But did he say clubs? or private gigs?
Here private gigs can go $3000 and you can get 4 or 5 a week.
Some of the guys playing with pop bands get $2000 a month for a 8 gig minumum, $250 for every gig over 8.
One guy I know was getting $7500 a month, this band charges $20,000 a gig, and has 20 or 25 gigs a month, in Dec. they have 35+ gigs and charge $30,000! In the summer he got a month off and the rest played only 5 or 10 gigs.
It's rich guys here, they love to have parties and spend!
Sting has play a wedding here as a few other big stars, it's fuuny what happen to Sting get this, one of the guest ask Sting to play a little more. Sting said no concrets over and the guy said I'll pay you, Sting said I just made $300,000 (yes that's right) and the guy said okay and in one hour Sting played another 45min set.
Fucking rich people!
