| Some peoplr sure do not have a clue. Here is a posting from the local Craigslist here.... time rain on this guy's parade.
"Wouldn't it be great to play in a Rock/R&B cover band where the band members could pray before a gig. Where we could hold each other up to a high ethical standard of behavior. Where we could talk about the songs we decide to play according to their content. I'm not a prude by any means but for once I'd like to play with some people who understand issues like submission of ego for the greater purpose and being equally yoked to fellow believers. I just think that it's easier to be on the same page if we're all reading the same book. All that said if you're still with me read on.
The origin of the word vocation is “calling”. I believe that my calling is as a musician, and I don't believe that it means that I must play only praise and worship music any more than a brick layer must only build churches or an artist must paint only sacred paintings.
Let's build the best Classic Rock and R&B cover band in Mid-America! We will play only the best of the best! Songs other bands are afraid or just don't have the chops to play!
Equal shares all around, NO BOSSES! I think if we can treat this like a real business, (not an ego trip), we can all clear an easy $40K+ each the first year and $50K or more each following year. I have a family but I'm open to one short international tour a year and some cruise gigs as well.
I'm a lead vocalist with 20+ years in the business. It's always hard to talk about yourself without sounding conceited, but the truth is I have a 3+ octave range and my vocal timber (in absolute honesty) goes from a young Robert Plant and Otis Redding rasp to a Steve Perry and Al Green smoothness. I've sung with choirs most of my life so I can harmonize on the fly. Last but not least, I love people and am very easy to get along with. I've been singing and playing blues harp & congas with a hobby band out of Stillwater for the last 3 years, doing corporate and private gigs, but like I told the guys recently, I need to get back to playing full-time.
I think that all we really need is a lead guitar, bass, drums, and keyboards. Everybody MUST sing (at least backing vocals). Preferably one member would be female for those upper register backing vocals as well as some female leads.
Once we find the right personnel we should be ready to publish our website and send out promo packs in 1 to 2 months max. So please, only the most accomplished and serious minded musicians need respond."

Lets see to "clear" 40,000 you would have to make in excess of 60-70,000 before taxes (social security 15.3%, federal and state taxes of a minumum 20%). The taking travel expenses, insurance, rooms on the road... adding what 5-10,000 each additional.
So lest go with grossing 75,000 each for a 5 piece band. it would be $375,000 gross revenue... then assuming yu play a gig every night the band would have to make over $1,000 per night every night. I do not know of many clubs that would pay that much per night for a cover band.
Not to mention that the guy is rather full of himself.

| You nailed it, Ron! Phil Beauty is a French phonetic corruption of a short, cloth neck ornament, currently in resurgence. -FZ | | Message posted 157 days ago | IP Logged |

| Yes christian musicians can play covers . I play covers for certain social gatherings, but to make the kind of money He's talking about you'd have to play in venues that would impact your christian ministry.I learned a long time ago You can't work both sides of the street.

| He's also not faced the overhead associated with a full time band, housing transport etc. Every succesful band, buisiness or ministery has some kind of leadership, true every band member needs input but someone has to lead and take care of the details,or you hire a road manager which adds to the overhead. If it was easy we'd all be rich succesful full time rock stars.
