| It's just that Gene a head with no bend to fit on the edge, it's call collarless and they're for guys who like to really tighten down the snare head, it's all I used before going with Evans. They tune up really quick and go on tight, I think they last longer too. Look at your snare head, are the tension rods almost bottomed out? This doesn't happen with collarless heads. I'm thinking about going back to using these they work so good.
Check the remo site and try them the work much better then heads with a collar.
