Skins 'n' Tins, The Champaign drum shop that hosted one of the Big Beat charity fund raisers last year is hosting a drum show Sunday, the 14th. It features Stanton Moore. Not bad for a college town!

Cool, are you going to go see him?

He's such an interesting player. So many unique grooves.

Stanton Moore was my favorite clinic ever.

I hope you get to go Al.

Yes, I plan to go! I'm sure I'll be entertained and maybe I can even learn something. - Al

When I saw Stanton he gave a little history of what second line drumming is and gave excellent demonstrations on how to apply it to your kit.

His playing is super funky. I think you'll really enjoy him Al.

Just got back from seeing Stanton. I can't say that I was familiar with his work before, but he's incredible. His technical skills are mind-blowing, but his encyclopedic knowledge of the fine points of so many artists' styles and techniques may be even more impressive. And he doesn't even have to think about it, it's just there. And then he demonstrates, and gives several variations.

One thing that was cool was when he brought a young man on stage who he had never met (It may have been an employee of Skins 'n' Tins. Local talent anyway.) - and taught him to play three or four grooves from songs by The Meters like Cissy Strut, and Fire on the Bayou. I'll post some pictures later.

I think you'd like his work with Galactic.

They are a funky jam-band with a serious New Oleans twist.

He is doing several clinics in the next few months, I'll try to catch him again.

Did they do it at the High Dive this time?

Yes, it was at the High Dive, and the place was packed! Afterwards, he went down the block to Skins 'n' Tins to sign stuff. He was promoting a new book/dvd/cd called Groove Alchemy. They were taking pre-orders.

He motivated me to pick up a Best of the Meters CD. I'll have to check out Galactic.

Checked some samples from Galacytic's latest on Amazon. It's not my style.
