After renovating its pipe organ, a Presbyterian church had a dedication service. The person in charge is a fine saxophone player, so he organized the service, and brought in 8 organists from around the area to play, and lastly a jazz trio consisting of sax (him), drums (me) and pipe organ, LOL. We played a couple of hymns in swing style. It was the first time this church sanctuary ever had a drumset in it (the church was built in the 1800's). It was a little difficult getting things locked down because there was this delay from the time an organ key was pressed to when the sound was produced, but we finally got used to it. I had no idea how it would go over, but we got a standing ovation!

Bad cell phone pics before the gig:

That's my other kit. "Old" Yamaha Tour Custom in Cobalt Blue circa 1989. Shells are mahogany. The new tour customs are maple.

Very cool Lee, In 1972 I brought the first drum into our church and my brother brought an electric guitar, we played that old Byrds song Turn,Turn,Turn...it shocked the crap ourt of the priest..he must have thought it was blasphemous.

The acoustics were great for jazz. Big and open, as you would imagine an old sanctuary being, but that's not a bad thing for a small jazz combo. Kinda adds a cool ambiance. LOTS of natural reverb.
