Im sick and tired of pop bands nowadays, why can't they just **** off!

Quote from modern drummer (but it may be slightly altered by my bad memory);

"I don't have a problem with technology nowadays, but the problem is when people start using it as a crutch"

I entirely agree with that.  Nowadays it's crazy what you can do with computers, they can tone singers voices in recordings if they can't sing in tune.  They just slap on pre made beats and rhytms.  Wheres the skill and fun in that?  The computer scientists who created thoses singers have more creativity juices flowing through their bodys.

Can't remember who it was, but I know of a few pop bands that had a lot of demand to gig.  They always refused though, because (as they admitted later) they didn't feel they were talented enough.

In todays world (as we are seeing more and more often), talent isn't rewarded, its your money and postcode that determines your sucess in life.

Unfortunately I think the "doctored up" sound will be here for a while.  With costs dropping on digital recording equipment and the ease to manipulate digitally recorded sounds the market will be flooded with it.

Bands have been using a fair amount of sound processing for years.  ie EQ, reverb, delay, wah wah pedals, distorsion, flanging.  Then you add click tracks, and digital accompaniment.

I agree that a band/artist needs to be able to perform live, and not just do a lip syncing dance recital.  But as long as people pay money to buy the CD's and go to the performances.. that type of stuff will be a reality.

When I go to a show, I always wonder... how much of what I am hearing is "prerecorded"

i heard that drum companies are starting to require drummers to come play for them before they endorse because of how easy its becoming to manipulate songs.
