| Maybe I'll get out the tools and lumber and straight up build something to mount the toms on. I used to have 14, 15, 18 wide toms and they definately were hard to tune but mostly cause the shells were warped all to hell. I have a drum dial too and even that couldn't do it. What makes it so hard just because of the size? I can understand that it would be hard to KEEP it in tune.

| | mess around with the DW workshop thing and see how you may be able to set the toms without mouting them over the bass drum and where to place your cymbals. | | Message posted 2879 days ago | IP Logged |

| | Yes it actually had occured to me that larger sticks would bring out more of the sound that I was after, but I assumed that average (or maybe a bit above average) width and just unorthadoxly deep depth wouldn't take away from the sound too much. Maybe I'll cut them down another couple of inches in depth... and just have a couple ginormous floor toms mounted on the side for those special moments when I want to make thunder, bust out the logs and pound them into demoralization. Has anyone ever played a 28" kick? I know they make'em, but I've never seen'em except in marching bands. | | Message posted 2878 days ago | IP Logged |

| dont do it!
personaly i think they will sound unfocused, get lost in the live mix sound, sound 'muddy', will be very hard to record, and make you look like a child playing grown up drums. remember your going to have to find cases for these monsters and transport them.
spend the money 'standard sizes' and some mics, or get into 'triggers' if your after a massive sound (effects)
