Played with a band at work last Christmas and no-one got on the dance floor until about the 4th number which was "Twist & Shout" - from then on everyone was up and jiggin' about! Althought the guitarist in charge was insisting on starting with a couple of slow songs to warm up!! Despite me telling him you have to start with something well known and boppy to catch people interest straight away. The Beatles are remembered very fondly in the UK so I guess as USA audience might not react in the same way.

Depends on the age group, but all in all I'd say they have a very recognized sound and would get a similar response here.  Definitely with the middle agers.

Really ? I'd wager that the Beatles are as recognized here in the US as in the UK. I took up the drums because of Ringo !! Really guys, the Beatles really are still quite strong here, we even have radio stations here in the LA and Orange County areas that regularly play their sets.

Assuming you're in a rock/pop/top 40/dance kind of sort of type of band....

these tunes were ALWAYS big hits when I played them on dance gigs: "Play That Funky Music" by Wild Cherry        "Everybody Wants You" by Billy Squire      "Addicted to Love" by Robert Palmer          "Love Rollercoaster" Ohio Players, I think. Red Hot Chili Peppers version works great.       "Some Kind of Wonderful"     "Sex Machine"     "Hard to Handle"      to name a few.    There are so many great ones, but you have to find the ones that work best for your band.
