They thought you were eighteen?

I've been legal for a while, and most people say I look much older than I am. And I STILL get checked at the bar almost every time.

No, they probably knew I wasn't. Everyone who wanted to get sold at that bar, got sold. Nobody was asked for ID.

Over here underage drinking isn't taken too seriously. Some people even start drinking when they are teenagers.

Someone in my year at school was telling me the police caught them with a bag full of vodka and all that happened is they poured it out and said, next time there will be a £40 fine.

Basically, if you want alcohol, there's always a way to get it.

It's pretty much the same here. You CAN get it if you want, but most licensed drinking establishments would loose their liquor license if they sold to underage patrons. That's enough motivation to keep most of them operating legally.

Underage drinking here is not nearly as 'serious' an offense as it is in the US (or at least what my impression of how serious an offense it is).

The drinking age here is 21.The local DA recruits teens to infiltrate bars and convenience stores to try to purchase alcohol and cigarettes. Violater are severly prosecuted,as they should be. Most places card anybody who doesn't have grey hair.

The police come in and ask for pupils in our school to volunteer for the same thing. The age for cigarettes is 18, so they get 16years olds to go into the shops to try and get sold.

LOL

Wow in Australia you would be hard pressed to find a person that didn't start drinking in their teens. Most polls/ studies these days find the starting age to be around 14
