Does anyone else get pissed when a venue owner tries to have you paid this way? The band just gets whatever is made off of the cover charge. Seems to me that it lets the owner completely off the hook as far as giving a crap weather there is a big turn out of not and it becomes entirely the bands responsibility to promote the show and they are the only ones taking a financial risk.
I usually take a pass on these places, but am tempted to try it at a new place that just opened, thinking that we may be able to draw a good crowd, in which case it may work out for the better...but it still bugs me!
Bar owners think it's our job to fill up their place of business... It REALLY pisses me of. Learn to market and develop your business. I'm there to entertain your customers and maybe bring you a few new ones... Not to make or break your business. Steve
No way would my band play for the door. We play just about every weekend and it would be difficult to generate a big crowd on our own week after week.
I have played plenty of weddings and private functions as well... but I think playing at bars is much more fun. I am a Weekend Warrior www.theauthorities.net \m/ -_- \m/
usually cover bands dont have to worry about playing for the door, only original bands, which stumps them even more...
I had a friend whose wife was from iceland. She said that their economy is so balanced that everyone gets paid for what they love to do. She stopped working full time so she could do more art, and the government came to her house and said, we need you to keep getting paid, so they paid her for the days she was at home painting.-~=Joey=~-
