Nothin' wrong with pillows or blankets...just keep in mind all the variables involved, like how thick the pillow or blanket is, how much of the head is covered, how much pressure is being exerted against the heads. Too much of any of these will choke the drum. Probably better results would come from a blanket carefully folded so that it lays flat in the bottom, touching both heads and covering up to 3-4 inches, with light pressure. Some pillows (IMO) tend to be way to thick, reducing the volume and resonance too much.

On second thought, maybe pillows AND blankets would be handy--in case you get drunk and pass out on the gig.

Get this...I don't drink anymore !! I had an episode years ago where I had a little too much and "heaved" on my drums while playing (or trying too). I took me a MONTH to clean those things, every single piece of anything attached to my drums was removed and cleaned. Even got the damn cymbal stands, had to clean those things too. It was just a HUGE mess !! And here's the kicker...because I was playing....some of it hits the heads and came back at me. It's an event I'll NEVER forget.

I gotta hand it to ya Frank, it takes tremendous dedication to keep on playing while blowin' chunks on your kit...congratulations!
