| Hi Folks, I've been in this forum a week and have read some interesting posts so I plan to keep checking in.
I play percussion as well as drums so I'm keen on hearing from players who are more into classical and shows. I play timpani in a symphony orchestra, drums/percussion in concert bands and a lot of pit work for high school musical productions. I also run a big swing band (but unfortunately, there is not too much call for that type of dance music these days in my small town.)
Lately I've been integrating electronic pads into my "pit kit" in order to give a larger selection of available percussion/mallet parts I am able to cover and to reduce the amount of space I take up. It's been a challenge to figure out the midi programming language to make my controller call up the instrumental sounds I need, when I need them, and with the control I'd like to have in the pit. I certainly welcome advise from anyone who has mastered the drum pad/controller/synth box midi chain.
I post mostly to the electronic timpani subject.

| Mike and Duncan, My name is Doug. I wasn't sure if real names were used on line but what the h....
Toronto huh? A young percussionist friend from Université de Moncton who played with us in Symphony New Brunswick has continued his studies in Toronto. Perhaps you have crossed paths with Joel at some time.
I thought I had retired after 32 years playing in a military band but there are so few percussionist around New Brunswick that I've been pressed into playing more often than I'd like at times.
It takes a special breed of musician to be a percussionist. A person who is infinitely patient for long periods and then willing to expose himself suddenly. Garison Keeler's "Young Lutheran's Guide to the Orchestra" says it all. https://www.zumodrive.com/share/b0hwZTRiMj?source=yahoo
