DAMN-that's ironic-I just logged on to this site, and my rythym guitarist phoned and asked if I was into playing a "free" gig at a hall on New Years eve. (free in that we won't get paid, but the hall rental is covered).  Depending on what the rest of the guys think(and what my wife thinks lol), I believe it's good exposure.(and a good time)

I can't think of a better way to ring in the new year!!!

Yeah go for it! I have played a free gig on new years before... well it wasnt really a gig, it was a church service for the changing over to the new millenium or something like that... but yeah it was still fun!

Really? I come accross lots of drum music and hardly ever see guide charts. Well from what my drum teacher has shown me anyways. But the reason I wana get good at sight reading is cos i want to get into session work. My teacher is a session muso, he reackons Ive got the technique, just need to work on sight reading and timing.

My ability to read well has gotten me some pretty sweet gigs over the years.

What type of sessions?  Most of the Rock and country sessions I've done tell me the tempo, the arraingment and the basic beat they want played.  It's all feel from there.  Now oldie bands, jazz and big band yes there are usually full charts there..
