Went for a meatier sound and ordered sabian hhx groove hats in the 15" flavor. Shook the bushes on eBay's "best offer" and got the price down a hundred bucks off asking for brand new from west coast drums. I'm fascinated with abts of gov't mule ever since I heard him do "what is hip" using these hats. Now I should be able to nail that song! LOL

I was looking at the same hats Phil. They definitely have their own sound. I liked them a lot.

Well, I haven't nailed "What Is Hip" yet, but I still have fun trying! What I do know is how these cymbals compare to the 14 sab darks they replaced.

The 15s allow the pedal to be a comfortable distance away and still have the edge of the hats close enough for hat/snare work without reaching. The distance to the hats/slave pedal feels more natural. They have a fuller, darker sound than the 14 darks have. The 15s require less effort for the same volume. By comparison, the 14 z custom ms that I have sound like dropping 12 empty glass bottles on concrete! That's the glassy sound that's the complete opposite of the 15s. The only gripe that I have is that logo always seems to end up under my sticks and stay there no matter where I put it. Not that I'll ever sell it, but I don't like to beat on logos!

Wow Mike your going Sabian! Good to hear.

Phil nice to know you have principles. I feel the same way and my HH Regular Hats do the same thing.
