Gretsch has just released a new drum series for 2012 NAMM. They're called Brooklyn, and they're a six-play maple and poplar hybrid shell.

Normal USA hardware, but with flanged hoops instead of cast.

Could be a cool vintage sounding drum, and they've got some great vintage wrap finishes as well (I think the red is my favourite!).

The concept sounds similar to the Pearl Pure series, except that the shell composition doesn't vary with the size of the drum ... or does it?

Seems to be about the same price range as the New Classics.

Less than the USA Custom by a fair bit, but a little more than the Renowns.

Gretsch without dicast hoops? Seems wrong.

They are pretty cool. They seem like Gretsch's version of Ludwig Legacys.

The red finish is eye popping to this old fart.

It does seem wrong, but according to the product lit, those were the way Gretsch hoops looked until sometime in the 50s.

I'm curious to hear them.

I am too, I have not seen them anywhere locally as of yet.

On other (admittedly less serious) Gretsch news, they now are making the two tone "Renown 57" kits in two additional colors.

The red would be fun for an oldies act...

(They are avalible in bebop sizes now too...)
