I don't really have plans at present to go in for a new professional level drum kit, but if i were to do so, what do you guys reckon are the best kits around?

I'd be willing to spend about $2000-3000 dollars on this baby, and it would probably be used for heavy rock, and possibly metal music. Double bass suggestions are also taken .

Also, which cymbals would be best reccommended, from the Zildjian, Sabian and/or Paiste range mainly? Other names are also welcome.

peace

tasty stuff. Its just that if i were to go in for something around 3000 bucks, id prefer more renowned namea, say Tama, Pearl, Yamaha, Premier or Sonor. But if its individuality here, then definately some good stuff there. Ive seen some awesome spaun kits as well, soo much choice.

Havent played on Z customs, only tried As. All in good time...

as far as i can see (and hear) you cant go wrong with any 'pro' level kit. all have the build quality youd expect so its down to style, what you like the look of.

as far as cymbals go ones mans meat is anothers poison, personally i think Z customs sound like crap. what would i recommend? take a look at my kit

what rich said with pro level kits there all gonna sound pretty much the same since there all useing keller unless they make their own shells custom makers are nice because you pick your sizes colors you can get stuff powder coated these customs are probably put together beter than your tamas pearls etc since the hardware will probably be machined instead of cast and with the smaller custom companys your not paying for their artist lineup so in the end youll get a kit of your dreams for most of the time a lower price just my 2 cents

a custom built set made by a drummer and not a painter will out perform any kit at any price range.  They are custom built to your specs with any hardware you want and they are finished in any fashion you want...  And all for usually less money...

Cymbals, I don't go for brands I go for sound....

you could get  badass "drum workshop" kit for that much. not a DW, Dw's mid-line. it only comes in three colors, but they are pure maple, and sound GREAT. you can get a basic five for about 1200, then spend the rest on more toms, and another kick...

you could always make one yourself if you know how to rub oil into them for a sweet natural finish or you could stain them and spray some clear ontop for about 1300 you could have like 3 toms 2 floors 2 bass's and some octabons now thatd be an awsome kit
