Last night I heard what I think is an Australian band called My Morning Jacket on Austin City Limits. (For those outside the U.S., Austin City Limits is a live performance program on Public Television.) I don't know how to categorize them except except to say that they are a really innovative rock band. They were playing material from their latest CD, "Evil Urges." Anyone who is not familiar with them should go to http://www.mymorningjacket.com/gogo/video/ or go to Amazon.com and listen to samples of their songs. I'm probably the last person in the world to learn about them, but they're great just the same. - Al

My bad. They're from Kentucky. http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll Like I said, I'm probably way behind everyone on this. Chalk it up to being an out-of-touch old fart. - Al

Yeah, I know. Sometimes I confuse easily. I was reading some stuff on Amazon that got me off track. - Al

I think our resident "Aussie" Luke, wouldn't mind being compared to our Kentucy contingent.

I like "My morning jacket".

LOL

But seriously...

My 26 year old niece turned me on to them. Her latest find is "Portugal the man".

I bought "Evil Urges" and have been disappointed. I liked tracks from the CD I heard on Austin City Limits, but to me the CD itself sounds like elevator music. They played "Evil Urges" material on the show. Maybe it's one of those bands you have to hear live. - Al

If this band was a person, it would be president. If this band was visual art, it would be the main attraction at Louvre. If this band was a book, it would be holier than the bible.

Go to amazon.com and do a search for them. When you click on a particular album and then scroll down, you will find short samples of their tunes. A lot of what I heard on the Evil Urges CD I would call sofr rock. I thought it was boring for the most part. - Al
