Hey everyone,

I'm doing a diploma of music in the performance stream but im gonna change to business stream. So i'll be learning about things like marketing, promotions, contracts all that type of thing. Has anyone done any work in a label or something like that cos im interested to hear what its like.... My ultimate goal is to be a session muso but the performance course just isn't pushing me at all cos our classes are more about getting gigs and doing performances.

Snoopy,  It is about playing live...     And the skills for getting a live gig are them same as getting a studio gig.  Nobody's gona hire you if they don't see you playing live first....

i think its a good move switching, better to know the business side aswell, incase you need to work before you make it 'BIG'

As for personal experience?, the only record company men ive delt with have been completly talentless, money grabbing assholes high on coke.

I agree best to know both sides  but if you want to be a player never cross that line....

Not really... I've never worked for any label in that capacity....  Now I have my own stuff  But that's different.......  I belive you need the business knowledge to be sucessful but that does not mean working for a lable in those capacities.  If you want to work as a session player you need lots and lots of playing experience in all different styles...... You need the business knowledge to not get ripped off.

Yeah thats what i was thinking. I have a few dreams... the main one to have my own label and be doing session work. And the performance course I'm doing now is ok... but i get more out of a drum lesson with my teacher (cos he is a session muso) than what i do out of the course. So yeah thats why im gonna change. Thanks for the advice.
