Hey guys, I am a bit nervous about this! But the band I play in have been in the recording studio to record a 3 track demo, we have posted them on myspace hope you guys like them.

Just a bit of background info, the band is a christian band and we've been playing together for about 5 years now, we started of playing worship music at our church but we took ourselves in a different direction about a year and a half ago. All the tracks have been writing by ourselves.

Sounds real good, Tron, I like it! Were these songs composed or did they originate from jam sessions? Always curious about how drum parts are developed for a song!

Brilliantly unpretentious ... Just enough simplicity, melodic, with that kind of feel takes restraint, yet deeply felt.

Drum sound compliments the music and words in a very "just enough" exciting way.

What up Tron?

OK here we go... Songs were not that bad. However, I think there is much left to do before they become releasable. Now remember I'm talking from a much higher level of production here and not just looking at it as a demo.

The parts sounded fairly good but I did hear some strange chords that don't fit right and more than a few bad notes from various instruments not just the guitar. There also seems to be some muddyness in the low mids and the lows sound really floppy even in on MP3 which means there could be more issues to work on.

Was this recorded or mixed professionally?

He was not asking for a critique on the recording technique itself, I believe.

We were told to listen, understanding this was a raw mix. The music was good. Better production was not the issue.

Getting everything technically perfect does not make for a great song. Sanitized and sterilized does not make for a good conversation, either. Some of the greatest recordings had clams still mixed in. Sort of like your first kiss. Pleased

Relax.... enjoy the music.

Gene... This is what I DO FOR A LIVING!!!!!!

Tron knew what he would get from me in posting this. Music is much more than just making noise... As a professional project he is looking for a PROFESSIONAL release. That requires a few things. One is looking at the arrangement and instrumentation. Next is that there not be any glaring bad notes or weird chords that don't work. And it builds from there. A good releasable song is one in which many angles have been looked at and fully flushed out. Just writing and recording a song does not make one a professional.

I don't know who you are but the next time you insult me or piss me off I WILL lock you out of this site!!!!!!!

Tron sorry that this had to be said in your thread....

As for the mp3 thing yeah that's possible but what I'm hearing should have gone away in the dithering process. Can you get the .wav files put somewhere and email me the link? I'll take a listen to them on the big monitors and throw a frequency analyzer on them...

Steve,

Sorry... I did not realize that he was asking for a critique of the recording itself. Did not mean to piss you off.
