Played a show last night with my band and it got me thinking about monitors. What do you guys prefer to have coming thru your monitors, and what levels ? I guess its partly personal preference and it must depend on what kind of music youre playing. But what do you guys normally have ?

NOrmally, I can hear what is already on stage. Granted we don't play at high volume. When I do have a monitor mix it ask for vocals, some bass guitar and keyboards and bass drum. Everything else I can hear fine. Remember as the monitor volume goes up the rest of the band will play louder starting the cycle of everyone turning up.

Depends on the club... Most clubs only put Vocals thru... because the system can't handle more than that.... My monitor system that I use with my PA only can handle vocals as well (I may add a little keys if I can't hear them). But understand that this is the NORM... In my day you were lucky to get a monitor.... Try singing without one.... it sucks.... but at the most all I NEED is vocals.... Now remember guys (and gals) I don't beat the shit out of my drums I play with everyone else so that I can hear them all.

In a bigger club with a big stage, drumfills, sidefills, floor monitors and a monitor mixer I will always have vocals, Kick, snare, bass and a little guitar and keys. I want almost a full front of house mix.... The same as I want coming thru the sidefills to the rest of the band. This enables me to have a lower stage volume from the instruments which gives more conrol to the soundman....Cool Dude

same here as above.....vocals mainly (especially MY vocal) Then, if the system can handle it, my kick and toms, then other things as needed for the venue.

Vocals as a minimum, some bass is good. In larger clubs and venues, I like a full mix.
