What do youthink is the greatest metal band to ever play
Matt the happy cow.

If this band was a person, it would be president. If this band was visual art, it would be the main attraction at Louvre. If this band was a book, it would be holier than the bible.

Black Sabbath, paronoid laid the foundation for all that follows. It is still the best album of it's kind ever made.

Metal these days is nearly as wide a term as 'Rock' itself.
Sabbath, along with Deep Purple started it all and are both all time classics. Bands such as Iron Maiden in the 70's and then Metallica, Slayer etc in the early 80's are also worthy of recogntion.

not the greatest ever metal band but.... i quite like Avenged sevenfold at the moment because they manage to be quite heavy without loosing the musicallity (if thats a word)

i find many modern metal bands seem to loose sight of this and just seem to be "ramming it down your throat"

i may be wrong as i generally listen to lighter stuff, does anyone else see this? or is it just me

You often hear reference to the 'big 4' from the 80's -
Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer.

Gottdonn your right "i find many modern metal bands seem to loose sight of this and just seem to be" "ramming it down your throat" Sometimes bands just lose it ind start shredding there hearts out and it makes it sound horrible
