Good luck, Anne. My daughter played 1st bass last year in her school drumline. She hopes to make snare this year.

I gotcha covered dude, I'm just as into marching as any other drumming.

If you succeeded with 2nd bass, there should be no problem going to 1st bass playing wise. Just keep on keepin on with your timing excercises, because thats what bass is all about, timing, right?

Make sure you do spend a good amount of time with the drum in front of a mirror making sure you have the mallets in the center of the head and memorize what the feels like and where you arms are so you can hit center every time you play.

Your biggest challenge will be your drill responsibilities. Your at the top of the line now, so when the line is moving in a manner that you are at the front of the line, it is your responisbility to be in the right spot at the right time. the 4 guys behind you must dress their position to you.

Like i said, playingwise just keep with timing excercises, and never play them without a met.

anne,

it shouldn't be that bad.... at least u don't play tenor and have 2 carry bass 4 and 3 up the stairs to the drum room because the rest of the drumline is being lazy and trying 2 flirt with the dancers....they getturned down alotArgh!...its funny

will

p.s. we only have 2 girls on our drumline...one of them is section leader...she plays the quads.
