I guess I see where you would say that.

I think Buddy was a great musician too, but I don't think he always choose the best material. I'm a fan of both.

To me Louie Bellson was the last of the great original big band drummers.

Krupa, Rich and Bellson were the big three to me.

Louie was a schooled, polished, refined musician who made the entire band sound better. When he was featured he demonstrated phenomenal facility.

Buddy was a force of nature, a miracle. You can love him, you can hate him, but you just can't deny him.

To really appreciate his range of talent you, have to hear his playing with Basie. He loved Basie, and some of those recordings show Buddy in a supportive role that I don't think he would take in any other band.

When I listen to either of them play all I can do is laugh, overwhelmed by awe.
You can't buy it.
