First let me LOL... (Sorry I get this way sometimes.... not trying to hurt your feelings I mean that in a general statement) Then say that recording is about finding the groove within yourself and the band and NOT over-playing. To get the best recorded sound (and IMHO live in any situation) a drummer should never over-play. When given the opportunity to do an unaccompnied fill or short solo do it with taste and dynamics and with A LOT of pre-thought and arraingement. If you want to do something with solos find a bass player and do drums and bass stuff. That's a cool way to do it.
I also play in our hurches worship band. however the acoustic in our church is not very drum friendly (way to much reverb) so I have to play all songs like unplugged sets. it's basically forced me to thinkl more about the fills I use and how I can compliment the opther instruments, which is very important in a worship setting 'cuz usually people are there to sing along and listen to the words, not to hear the band.
