| I haven't played my "K"s in about a year. I set them up tonight, very cool.
It's funny, I tend to play a little differently depending on what cymbals I set up. -Mike of Baltimore We don't stop playing because we grow old. We grow old because we stop playing.

| | I have a set of Paiste 602's (14" hi-hats/18" thin crash/20" medium ride) that came with my Ludwigs in 1973. I've always considered the cymbals the best feature of the set (I do baby them, so I've never had the cracking problem). | | Message posted 142 days ago | IP Logged |

| Paiste 602... Legendary cymbals.
We drool over them here on a regular basis. Take good care of them, they would be tough to replace. Gene | | Message posted 142 days ago | IP Logged |

| HA! My first pair of hi-hats were 602's Ride cymbal too for that fact. Shit I think I was five years old, so that would make them old (for cymbals) No I gave them away, dad had to many K's around and once I could play some he gave me a few. Funny thing and Gene may understand, my dad didn't have one crash cymbal, not one, the smallest cymbal he ever gave me was an 18" crash/ride all the rest were 20" K ride cymbals. He played a 18X14 bass 12X8, 14X14 toms, 14" k hi-hats and two 20" or 22" rides. He didn't own a cymbal smaller than 20" except for a 8' splash maybe. He would bring about eight ride cymbals with him to every gig though. His cymbal bag was heavier than his trap case. I know because I was the one you put the drums in the car when he had a gig, as he would say "what do you think I had kids for" It was also funny when he died drummers calling to say sorry but unable to resist asking about his cymbals, nobody cared about his drums. The guy with the prettiest drums Always gets the gig! | | Message posted 139 days ago | IP Logged |

| Classic bebop kit. I still don't usually use anything smaller then an 18" for those kind of gigs. Usually an 18" Istanbul Crash that works well as a left side ride, and my 18" K Constantinople crash on the right of the ride (if I go for a 3rd cymbal). Ride may vary, but mostly a 20" K Constantinople medium ride.
I just don't hear small crashes in mainstream bebop. Doesn't sound right to me. Once we get a little more modern it's another story. Gene | | Message posted 139 days ago | IP Logged |

| If you looked at my cymbal setup five years ago I used a lot of 14", 15", and 16" crashes. Now I usually use two different 18"s, a 17", and maybe one smaller crash or splash just to break it up. My whole way of listening has changed.
