Well this sections has been dead for far too long. And Al put up some recordings of his kit, so I thought I'd throw up one of my more recent recordings.

I don't have any drum kit recordings at the moment. If I'm bored today I might try and do something for fun. Maybe I'll even record a mallet piece. After all it can't hurt to have a few recordings of myself.

I believe this was sometime in April. It's my orchestra playing Igor Stravinsky's Symphony in Three Movements which I think is a REALLY cool piece. The quality of the track is reasonable (although not amazing) because it was done in a pretty decent concert hall.

The quality of the playing might be slightly more questionable. I wish I had the authority to just banish all the trumpets, and half the trombones from my school completely. The strings do okay considering how tough a piece this is.

For those not familiar with 20th Century orchestral repertoire, it probably sounds as though there are a TON of wrong notes and rhythms. I guarantee it's actually correct (except maybe the trumpets). There are very few sections where one time signature continues for more than a few bars at a time. It's constantly changing keys, there are strange atonal fugues, and weird stuff like winds playing a C major chord, and brass playing a C# major chord at the same time.

I completely hated this piece when I first heard it. Thought it had no finesse and was just ugly. But once you start getting into it, it really beings to groove and rock along!

Hope you enjoy. It's all one track. The middle movement is probably the most traditional if you can't stand listening to to the first and third. And there's 1:48 of clapping at the end, that for some reason the recording guys didn't remove.

BTW, I'm playing bass drum. It was supposed to be timpani, but unfortunately when you take an orchestra spot over a bunch of more senior students, you tend to get shafted from the good parts. Hopefully next year will be better.

Enjoy! I'll find more recordings if I can. I truly believe that listening to lots of music is they key to becoming a successful and well rounded player!

Sorry guys, I forgot that Windows won't play AAC format. Still strange that it won't download. This site is usually pretty good, and I know it's been used in North America and Europe.

Here's a new link to the same file in MP3 format:

BTW, it is a symphony, so although it's a 'short' symphony, it's still pretty long. I wouldn't expect you to actually listen to it all, but if you're feeling gutsy and want to try something new, this might be the ticket.

It's roughly 24 minutes long. A short symphony my orchestral player's standards, but long for a rock n' roll drummer.
