Me how much you torque lug screws when you put a drum together?

I like to put them all at the same tension and just enough to keep them from falling out. When you get them new they seem to be much tighter, I think this choke the drum some and I love open drums.

Now I use a Cordless screwdriver with a torque control, before I just used my hand and kept putting back the screws that fell out.

I have to say that I tighten snare lug screws tighter becuase I put more tension on a snare drum but toms I tune low and open so they get less.

I think this makes a big difference in the sound of drums or I'm just being anal.Pleased

You mean the mounting screws affixing the lugs to the shell?

Mine are tight "hand tight" - as tight as I can get them using a hand screwdriver, but not so tight that I risk stripping the thread. If a screw has a tendency to loosen up, I'll hit it with a little bit of LocTite when I put the drum back together.

I haven't really experimented with different tensions on the mounting screws, not where the sound of the drum is concerned.

You would think that by putting them very tight it would put pressure on the shell, well I do anyways.

I found that if you lighten up a bit the drum will vibrate more.

The trick is to put them in not so tight to choke the shell and tight enough so they don't fall out.

I did this on my drums and just did it with the studio's drums and I hear a difference.

My purple kit is going to need some fresh batter heads soon. I'll give this a try at that point, once I have access to the mounting screws, to see if I notice anything.

Just put more tension on snare drums.
