I've been messing with my bass for about six months now, figuring things out on my own. I watch videos on youtube, I watch different bass players in clubs and of course different bassists that I've been playing with. I think I've gone about as far as I can on my own.

So, I signed up for formal lessons at a guitar shop about a mile from here. I'm enjoying learning new things and I think that it will make me a better drummer.

(And of course then I'll get to collect basses...)

I was thinking of more along the lines of a mim Jazz bass or a used Schecter.

Maybe someday an American Jazz special when they start popping up used...

I did score a nice American made Peavey VLX210 cabinet on Craigslist for $105.

I think Yamaha makes some of the best basses of the more entry level instruments.

Warwick is probably my personal choice. I might be biased because that's what my brother mostly plays, and I've become used to the sound.

Warwick does make some fine instruments. They have recently started making electric guitars under the old Framus brandname.
