i have to think if it was a good idea, we see a lot more of them. I could be wrong...

Everything's worth hearing once though. You should buy them since you're on a streak, Mike. Devilish

Gimmicky. A metal snare sounds good because it's played against a wooden kit.

I agree. Although I am curious about the sound. I played a titanium snare and it was the loudest snare I've ever heard. EVER!

I'm guess that this set would sound good on an outdoor gig...

without mics.

I worked on several titanium orders at my former job.I was always impressed by the strength/weight ratio of the material, This kit should be very light and loud for it,s size. I have often thought about a titanium telecaster but the expense would far outway the benefit.

I'd have to hear it first, but...

...I've played one or two Dunnett titanium snare drums, and they flat out kill, IMO - at all dynamic levels.

...I also got a good chance to check out a Trick drum set (http://www.trickdrums.com/), made with aluminum shells, last October - and it sounded great to my ears - no PA, no EQ, no nothin', just the drums onstage during a clinic/performance.

Respectfully, Lee, I beg to differ.

Ask Paul Mason at Tempus Drums, about the resistance he has gotten to his fibreglass and carbon fibre drum shells - instruments which I think are on a par with the best wood or metal drums. My favorite is the story of the drummer who tried one of Paul's kits in a drum shop, and fell in love with it. He was AT THE CASH REGISTER, READY TO BUY THEM, when he asked the sales clerk, "Tell me again - what kind of wood are those drums made of?" When told that the shells were made of fibreglass, he put his wallet away and walked out. It didn't matter what his ears told him - he couldn't wrap his head around the idea of a non-wood drum set.

In general, IMO, drummers tend to be a pretty conservative lot when it comes to their equipment - they want what they know. At least, that's what I've found to be the case over the years. That's fine - guys can like what they want, it's not my business one way or the other - but that often means that instruments that have musical value have great difficulty breaking into the marketplace, just because so many drummers aren't open to new things. Certainly, when it comes to instrument design and construction, many new ideas are crap (as are many old ideas, IMO!), but getting drummers to try new things can be a challenge.

As always, IMHO, FWIW, YMMV, and all other hideous Internet disclaimers apply to what I've written here.
