My name is Stephen Abernathy, currently living in Portland OR but about to make the move to Brentwood Tennessee next Thursday, July 8, so I'll not be posting until mid-July.

About me....hmmm. The drum solo I posted was in 2006 at the Roseland Theater. I was 54 at the time. Cut my hair in 2007, kept the fuManchu mustache, still love to do 4-10 minute solos to keep up the chops. Have a Ludwig kit also, the Classic Led Zep kit in clear Maple. 26", 15", 16", 18" still use the same Slingerland COB 6.5 X 14" and still (Love) my vintage Zildgians.

I've played in a couple of NW bands since then. The move to Brentwood will enable me to work with a very good friend of mine who has a thriving little studio, make some great music with myriad players...that's the plan anyway.

My beginnings? Grew up in Snyder Texas, first drum kit was a Montgomery Wards set of "Kents". I was dreaming LUDWIG, but pop couldn't afford them. Long story short, I ended up running away from home at 14, ended up in NYC, aquired my first Ludwigs in Champagne Sparkle, played C.B.G.B.'s and Max's Kansas City, 2 famous clubs in NYC in the early 70's, recorded in Jimi's Electric Lady Studio's on 8th in the Village in '72 with a rock band "Whirlwind" toured all over the US, settled down in '78, got married, had two kids, divorced in 2000, married in 2001 to my present wife, still playing drums, still have two great kids.

What's to tell?

Hi Stephen,

Welcome to Drum-World.

I love vintage drums as well. I have a couple of Slingerland kits, a Leedy, and a Gretsch in the vintage arsenal. Ludwig lovers are well represented here as well.

You are definitely into monster basses, pretty cool stuff.

Good luck with the move. (I used to be in that business...)

Drop back in when you are settled.

Thanks!

Move went great. I'm now in Brentwood (Nashville) TN and looking forward to playing some great music!

The move went flawlessly, my wife and i stopped off in Yellowstone for a couple of days, saw tons of wildlife including a big bear, stopped at Mt. Rushmore and the Crazy Horse statues, arrived friday last, the movers showed up Sat morning, and now we're unpacking...unpacking..unpacking...Whew!

Tired but happy!

I'm glad your move went smoothly Stephen.

We closed on a home May third. We have major renovations going on, so we have yet to move our furniture. Right now we have a small table, 2 chairs and a bed. (I'm not kidding...) It's like camping.
Argh!

Glad to have you here.

Thanks! Glad to be here!

One thing I've found about moving...weather you do it yourself (Yikes!...Done that!) or using a national moving company like we did on this last one (My first time using someone else)...if you're moving across the world or across the street. You STILL have to pack everything up in boxes...and unpack when you arrive at your destination.

I tell ya'...I can still hear the shipping tape gun sound ringing in my ears! ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZiiiip!

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZiiip!Argh!

And then the cutting of the shipping tape on each and every box and then folding the boxes for storage.

Another cold hard fact? You're not totally moved in and settled for at least 6 months....in my experience.

As for your present situation? I can only equate it to the adage I frequently use in an impossible-looking or super stressful situation.

"THIS TOO, SHALL PASS"

And it will. Believe me, at 58 years of age, I've seen some stressful times, but it always passes. It may not be in the most timely manner, but it WILL pass...as I have to constantly remind myself.
