Greatest Trash Album?! Oh, that would have to be the 1st album (vinyl) by the Ramones. It first came out in '76, I think. You'll have to look for it. It was re-released in 2001 if you wan the CD. Here's a songlist:

1. Blitzkrieg Bop
2. Beat On The Brat
3. Judy Is A Punk
4. I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend
5. Chain Saw
6. Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue
7. I Don't Wanna Go Down To The Basement
8. Loudmouth
9. Havana Affair
10. Listen To My Heart
11. 53rd & 3rd
12. Let's Dance
13. I Don't Wanna Walk Around With You
14. Today Your Love, Tomorrow The World

15. I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend (Demo)
16. Judy Is A Punk (Demo)
17. I Don't Care (Demo)
18. I Can't Be (Demo)
19. Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue (Demo)
20. I Don't Wanna Be Learned / I Don't Wanna Be Tamed (Demo)
21. You Should Never Have Opened That Door (Demo)
22. Blitzkrieg Bop (Single Version)

Yup, your eyes are NOT deceiving you, there are 14, I say again 14 regular cuts to the album. The other eight are demos of some of the songs. Cool idea; you get to hear the original version and the finished product all in one setting.

When's the last time you bought a CD that had 22 freakin' songs on it?? NEVER!

The Ramones played fast and furious. If you get a chance to see one of their old concert videos, you'll see they didn't waste a lot of time with chit-chat or "audience rapport". Their songs usually run between 90 seconds and 2 minutes, 25 seconds. They'd blaze thru a song, finish, announce the title of the next one, count off "1,2,3,4. 1,2,3,4!", and blaze into that one. All the songs are like that; back to back to back.

THAT is real thrash. Hard, fast, loud, power chords, very few vocal harmonies, no solos, no ballads, no breaks, in-your-face rock!

Thrash metal would be like Megadeth, Primus or early Anthrax.

Speed Metal is definitely like Motorhead or Yngwie Malmsteen!

Old Metal would be Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, and Rainbow.

Heavy Metal first referred to the music of Led Zeppelin; also Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Iron Butterfly.

Hope this helps....

Keep Slammin'!!!

Hey Oldfartdrummer, Your info is all crap mate.#1 you cannot call The ramones thrash metal. Just cause they are fast. Thrash metal has a distinctive sound, beat and aggrassion which the ramones, as good as they were, did not have. Thay were punk rock. I know thrash evolved from punk but thats like saying thrash was started by robert johnson. And by the way solos were and still are essential in thrash metal. Metal played with no solos i would be temped to call 'new metal' eg. slipknot, machine head.#2 Megadeth, primus, anthrax... thrash?..Megadeth had one or two moments under the thrash spotlight but would consider them just heavy metal, bordering on glam. primus are by no stretch of the imagination thrash metal. Heavy funk with metal sounding guitars. Anthrax had a fair bit of thrash in them in their early days but wouldnt consider them influential. Motorhead are not speed metal. I would put them under your old metal banner with a few years on the others. Metallica's most 'thrash' album was by far ride the lightning. Master of puppets was very very influential and their best but only a handfull of thrash songs on it. thrash is played fast, aggresively with choppy, galloping guitars with numerous solos. hail thrash metal !!!!!!!!!

All Metal involes SOLOS... It's all about showing everyone how fast and loud you can play. Now try to calm down, pull your head out of your ass and play tastefully and with other musicians and you'll find that you can't do it... And as I have said MANY times before Zep, Cream, Butterfly and Hendrix are considered Hard Rock and NOT Metal.

ovenboy, Welcome to the wonderous haven known as Drum World.

The one thing we all have in common, besides loving drums and everything about drums, is that we all like to voice our opinions.

What you read was my opinion. Right or wrong (in your mind) doesn't mean squat to me. As you'll soon find out, I have opinions on a lot f stuff. Some of it doesn't sit well with others, some of it does. Another nice thing about the folks here, is that we get along...most of the time. We don't "bicker"...we have differences of "opinion".

For instance, your opinion on thrash and metal and punk are very interesting, but I don't agree with most of it.

....so, welcome, and jump right in!
