Let's list some good music to play along with to build up skills. Preferably not with too simple drums, but not too advanced either. Any style will do. I myself am looking for some jazz, fusion or funk with nice drums, as I've already got lots of metal, pop, and rock.

Thanks!

Here are a few bands I like:

Rage against the machine (quite slow, lots of "time" to do fills!)

Herbie Hancock and the Headhunters (funky jazz!)

Opeth (they were only metal when they started, but now, many songs are very soft and slow)

The Cars - all the original stuff is great for beginners to get timing down.

Led Zep - In through the out door - exclusively, great stuff on there for drumming and getting good with fills.

Pink Floyd - anything - The Wall, Dark side of the moon....Nick Mason just stayed within the barriers of the song.

Ian Paice is, in my opinion, some kind of living god!! The man is the reason I wanted to learn drums! In one of more practiced times I used to be able to play the Mule solo from begining to end - with one foot!

I am really out practice .

My top picks:

Laurence Cottle - jazz, but with good swing. Ian Thomas really pulls some jems out on every album.

Thin Lizzy - quite interesting, Irish folk insipered parts. Maybe not too challenging, but I have never heard a cover band do The Boys Are Back In Town with the correct beat!

System Of A Down - complicated dynamics and tempo changes. Try getting the speed up at the end of Sugar sounding clean, and remain playable!!

Pitchshifter - just try. May sound like an impossible sample fest, but there is a real drummer, and yes he does play those parts! He is also a really nice bloke!

Taproot - Nice, simple beats played VERY well; some very nice touches. Interesting techniques live...

List is getting a bit metal infused, so I will leave it for now thestub38099.636087963

Oh, and how could I forget MudVayne. I don't care what sort of music you are into, every drummer can apprechiate the tightness of that rhythm section
